The Achiever Award

On Friday night I received the Forgeahead/DOC African Achievers Award in the category Top ICT Educator in Africa. There's more information at http://www.integr8it.com/INTEGR8ITNewsPage/tabid/90/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/458/ITWEB--Call-for-innovation-collaboration.aspx

Last year I was one of the runners up.

I received the reward in recognition of the sort of stuff that I have been doing all over Africa for ICT in Education generally.

In my acceptance speech, however, I made it very clear that I received the award ON BEHALF OF the 35 Doctors, and 150 Masters who graduated under my supervision, as well as the students from Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique, Sudan and Ethiopia. The point is - I did very little myself, except to get some masters' and doctoral students enthusiastic about using Computers in Education, and writing up what they had learnt. Again at the Faculty I see myself as a file server or a hub, connecting various nodes and keeping the information flowing. Ironically, though, in the "blurb" about me in the booklet, many of these initiatives are listed as if they were my initiatives rather than those who work or study under my guidance. Thus, my gratitute for the award goes out more to those of you who helped me get it, than to those who awarded it.
And thanks so much to all of you who sent your condolences!
